There are various room status codes used in the hotel by the housekeeping department. A room status code will combine both the occupancy and cleanliness information relating to a hotel room.
Any changes in the status of the room should be promptly communicated to the front office so that hotel can maximize room sales and their annual revenue too. There should be close co-ordination between these two departments so that guest can get effective services from the hotel. Hence, room status should be maintained properly and timely.
- CI – Check-In
Depicts that the room is ready for check in. - CO – Check-Out
The room status when guest has vacated and the room still needs to be prepared for selling. - DND- Do Not Disturb
The DND tag or the privacy lamp depicts that the guest does not wish to be disturbed by housekeeping. - DNCO – Did Not Check Out
The guest settled the bill but did not check out formally at front office desk. - VCI – Vacant, Cleaned and Inspected
When particular room is Vacant, Cleaned and Inspected by the Housekeeping Supervisor. - VC – Vacant and Cleaned
Particular room is Vacant and Cleaned by the housekeeper staff. - SR – Service Refused
Guest refused to clean the room. - VD – Vacant & Dirty
That particular room is Vacant and Dirty. - SO – Slept Out
The room is occupied but the bed was not used. - NR – Near
- VR – Vacant & Ready
Room is Vacant and Ready for Check-in or sale. - OC – Occupied & Cleaned
Room is Occupied and Cleaned by the Housekeeping. - OD – Occupied / Dirty
A guest is occupying the room, but it has not yet been serviced by housekeeping since the previous night - OOO – Out of Order
The status of room is not ready for selling because of some problem such as nonfunctioning shower, or broken items. The supervisor needs to know for how long it will be out of order and is responsible to get it into order as fast as possible. - OR – Occupied & Ready
- SL – Single Lock
Guest has put a single lock in the room. - DL – Double Lock
Guest has put a double lock in the room. - OOS – Out of Service
The area or equipment not in service. - LO – Lock Out
The room has been locked so that the guest cannot re-enter until he or she is cleared by a hotel official. - DO – Due Out
The room is expected to become vacant after the following day’s checkout time. - NCI : Newly Check-In
Room was checked in recently or within the last one to two hours. - LC – Late Check-Out
The guest has requested and is being allowed to check out later than the normal/standard departure time of the hotel. - EC : Early Check-In
Guest has requested for an Early Check-in and is being allowed to check-in earlier than the normal/standard check-in time of the hotel. - V/C or O/V : Status Un-Clear
(Either the room is Vacant and Clean or Occupied or Vacant) which needs to be verified by the Housekeeping staff. - H/L – Heavy Luggage
That hotel guest has Heavy or more luggage than usual. - L/L – Light Luggage
That hotel guest has light or very less luggage. - N/L – No Luggage
That hotel guest has no luggage which is also know as Scanty Baggage. - C/L – Chain Lock
Guest has put a chain lock in the room. - HU -House Use
Room is used by the own hotel staff or someone who is staying from the management team. - NS – No Show
A guest who made a room reservation but didn’t register or check in. - MUR – Make-Up Room
- DO – Due Out
The room is expected to become vacant after the following guest checks out. - BLO – Blocked
- TDS – Turn Down Service
- UR – Under Repair
A room currently under repair and not ready to sell. - SB – Scanty Baggage
The baggage is put carelessly. - SA – Special Attention
Depicts that the room requires special attention. - RET – Returned Guest
The guest that gives a repeat business as a result of satisfaction. - NC – Not Cleared
A vacant room not cleared, not ready for selling. - L – Luggage
Luggage in room but bed unused. - IS – Inspected
Depicts the status of the guest room ready to sell. - HM – Honeymooner
Depicts that the room is for the newly-wed couple. - CO – Check Out
The guest has settled his or her account, returned the room keys and left the hotel. - VM – Vacant / Maintenance
A room has been taken out of inventory for a specified reason, normally to allow repairs to take place. - FG – Fussy Guest
- VIP – Very Important Person
- VVIP – Very Very Important Person
- FIT – Free Independent Person/ Foreign Individual Tourist
